Every family has their own way of celebrating Christmas with their own unique traditions. Even if that simply means decorating the tree a certain way or listening to the same Christmas songs every year. When you really think about it, everyone has Christmas traditions. The traditions that we participate in create distinct memories that last a lifetime, and are opportunities for so much fun! Here are some unique ideas for Christmas traditions that you can try at home!

 

#1 Blow Up A Gingerbread House This is a great tradition to try on the night of Christmas Eve. ​​Make sure you do it outside and don’t use large explosives. A ​​few firecrackers or a small firework leftover from Fourth of July will be fine. Usually once a gingerbread house is built it gets displayed for a while and then thrown into the trash. (Unless you’re one of those crazy people who eats stale pieces of gingerbread.) If you decide to try out this tradition, you can dispose of your gingerbread house in a way that is extremely entertaining!

 

#2 Roller Skate to Church on Christmas Day

In Venezuela, it’s a popular tradition to roller skate to Mass on ​​Christmas Day. Everyone, including children and adults, join in on the fun. Traffic is even shut down so that they can skate safely. While roller skating to church here in America might not be such a great idea, going ice skating or roller skating on Christmas Day sounds like a wonderful way to spend the holiday.

 

​​ #3 Have KFC for Christmas Dinner ​​ In Japan, you have to order your KFC a ​month​ ahead of time in order to eat Kentucky Fried Chicken on Christmas Day. Everyone eats KFC for Christmas Dinner in Japan and it’s a delicious way to celebrate.

 

#4 Look for The Pickle

While a pickle may not be very Christmas-y here in Georgia, in ​

​Germany a well-known tradition is to hide a small pickle within the branches of the Christmas tree. The rule is, whoever finds it first gets a prize. This is a fun game to play with your younger relatives who want something fun to do Christmas Day. Lot’s of stores like the Dollar Tree and Walmart sell small pickle ornaments that are perfect for this tradition.

 

#5 Drive Around Looking at Christmas Lights with Hot Cocoa and Cookies This tradition is especially enjoyable if you live in or around a ​​

neighborhood that decorates with lots of lights. Grab a few friends, make some hot cocoa and cookies and explore! You’re bound to run into a few holiday displays that take your breath away and leave you full of the holiday spirit.

 

However you decide to spend your Christmas, just make it your own and spend time with the ones you love- then you can never go wrong!
