Who is OverheardTFC?

A new Instagram account where TFC students can send in funny quips and comments they hear on campus is steadily growing in popularity and becoming the talk of the college community. Though many TFC students know and love the account, the person behind it all still remains a mystery. This article and the next series of articles describes one reporter’s attempt to discover who that mystery person is. The mystery person will now be referred to as “Anonymous” from here on out. Names in this article have also been changed to protect the privacy of those involved.

I started with identifying all the possible suspects through simple internet stalking. The first ten followers of the Instagram account revealed Anonymous’ friend group, consisting mainly of Heather Johnson, Lily Archer, Ricardo Cithara, Devon Chang, Brian Williams, and Charlotte Hamilton. I then searched through their posts, trying to determine which of those friends commented, liked, and engaged with OverheardTFC the most. I came up with three main suspects: Brian Williams, Devon Chang, and Lily Archer.

Devon was the very first person to follow OverheardTFC,which is a strong inclination that he knows who started it in the first place, if he himself is not Anonymous. Lily frequently comments on the different posts and has claimed to be the source of a few herself. Brian followed the account early on as well, but has never commented or liked. This makes him the most likely suspect as people do not usually like their own Instagram posts.

I contacted Lily to get more information. She gladly admitted that she was the source for one of the early OverheardTFC posts, but when asked about who the OverheardTFC founder might be, she avoided the question and focused her answer more on tiny details rather than on any real suggestion about who it was. At first, this piqued my interest and suspicion. Then I realized that it would not make sense for her to be Anonymous. She is the lone commenter on almost every post and that something she would be less likely to be if she was Anonymous. Again, people usually do not comment or like their own posts, especially without provocation from other commenters.

The next action to take will be to contact my next two suspects and see what they have to say. If you have any information regarding the identity of Anonymous, please email us at talon@tfc.edu.

Until next time.
