Clarkston Refugee Ministry: Upcoming Opportunities

For students at TFC, there are lots of ministry options. And since TFC is a Christian and Missionary Alliance college, many of those ministry options are geared towards unreached people groups. One of those ministries is in Clarkston, Ga.

The population of Clarkston is comprised largely of refugees, and the city is home to people from roughly 40 nationalities and 60 different languages. Because of its great diversity, the city of Clarkston has even earned the nickname "the most diverse square mile in America."

Students are often drawn to the uniqueness of this ministry opportunity. TFC's Clarkston Refugee Ministry partners with Envision Atlanta (led by Pete Brokopp) to take monthly trips, typically with 25-30 students. Jamie Daniel (junior) is the student leader of the Clarkston ministries and typically heads up these trips. This year, Jamie has lots of engaging activities planned. He shared some of his plans with us, including helping at a thrift store, a movie night, and some prayer walks.

Dates for Clarkston trips in Fall 2019 are:

  • September 21

  • October 26

  • November 23

For students who want to spend more time in Clarkston or are not able to make these trips, there are other opportunities to get involved. Envision Atlanta can always use volunteers, specifically with daycare, English classes, and health clinics.

Overall, spending time in Clarkston is a challenging and rewarding ministry. Jamie describes it as “a great way to branch out.” Whether you need an SAO, are looking for a community ministry opportunity, or just want something to do on a weekend, we highly recommended that students get involved.
