Behind Drakeford
For many TFC students, the band Drakeford will sound very familiar. Husband-wife duo Drakeford (better known as Drake) and Lucy-Jayne Lanier are a talented couple that writes and performs songs that share their faith and story. With songs that share such powerful messages and music that covers a wide range of genres, it is no surprise that many TFC students enjoy Drakeford’s music.
The story that the Lanier’s have to share truly is quite amazing. While Drake is from Florence, South Carolina, Lucy-Jayne is from Birmingham, England. As a child, Lucy moved to Atlanta with her family. Despite only living a few hours from each other, it was not until young adulthood when Drake and Lucy met. Both Lucy and Drake followed the call to do missions in Turkey. It was not until they were street performing with their organization in Turkey that the couple finally met. Drake, who took special interest in Lucy, wrote a song vaguely about his feelings for her, and the rest is history. The couple got married soon after, and they have been making music full-time since 2015. Having recently moved to Nashville, they have had several new opportunities to release their music.
Drakeford has performed multiple concerts at TFC, most recently on September 19. Over the course of an hour and a half, students enjoyed listening to Drakeford play a variety of songs, including some brand-new ones. Beginning with “Never Leave or Forsake Us,” they enthralled students with some great personal stories and a diverse set list, consisting of old favorites and unreleased songs. After students asked for more, the band graciously played two more songs, ending on one that yet to be slated for release.
The morning after the concert, Drakeford took some time to answer a few questions and share some insider information! They were excited to let us in on a few of their upcoming projects and told us to be looking out for some new singles. Their newest single will be out next week, with a few more coming throughout the year. Their first ever Christmas song will be coming out soon as well!
