Homecoming Weekend 2019
Toccoa Falls College has been home to many people over the years. Every year, TFC students, faculty, and alumni gather to spend a weekend, known as homecoming, together. Homecoming is always a great time for students to meet alumni and for the entire community to celebrate being able to call TFC home.
While some of the events to kick off the weekend ended up being canceled, everyone was still able to spend meaningful moments together. The annual tailgate picnic was a huge hit, giving an amazing opportunity for students, alumni, and faculty to mingle.
The homecoming soccer game was also a success, with TFC winning against Mid-Atlantic Christian University 4-0. After the game, people gathered around a bonfire at the floodplains. Led by Dr. Thomas Council and Professor Grant Wahl, the bonfire was a good opportunity for current students to worship with alumni and faculty. It was another great event, as people enjoyed singing a mix of modern songs (such as “The Motions” by Matthew West) and old classic hymns (such as “Amazing Grace).
The night wrapped up with the annual Sweets and Treats event, with this year’s hits being Fried Oreos, Boiled Peanuts, Doughnuts, and Kona Ice.
After a fun filled Friday, Saturday was equally eventful. The morning started with an alumni breakfast, giving TFC graduates a better chance to spend time together, hear the alumni choir, and receive awards.
Following the breakfast, current students and alumni alike had a great time competing in the annual alumni soccer game. Graduates then had a chance to reunite over a special lunch, sharing memories together and participating in an open mic event.
The annual Duck Race was a hit once again, with this year’s benefits going to the Bible and Theology department. The afternoon consisted of a hike to Little Falls, the Alumni/Faculty softball game, and the BBQ dinner Festival on the Field.
After dinner came the highly anticipated Alumni Basketball game, and the equally anticipated Homecoming Court. This year’s freshman (’23) representative was Emily Johnson, with Abigail Haydel representing the sophomores (’22) and Devon Burns representing the juniors (’21). The senior class (’20) had 5 representatives, and homecoming queen nominees, consisting of Sarah Blackaby, LaShay King, Anna Halbersma, Abigail Mount, and Sondra Hoskins. Cheers erupted as last year’s homecoming queen, Katie Hall, crowned Hoskins homecoming queen.
Finally, the night, and the 2019 Homecoming weekend were ended with the annual Coffee at The Falls event, giving one last opportunity for students, alumni, and faculty to spend time together. The falls were beautifully lit, as people enjoyed refreshments and fellowship.
While the weekend did have to end, the events were enjoyed by many as TFC students, faculty, and alumni alike gathered to celebrate the place that is for so many, a home away from home. People experienced happy reunions and the chance to get to know each other and learn about the past of the school. TFC has changed the lives of so many, as it really is a place that many people enjoy coming “home” too.
